Len Bateman, C.M., O.M (1919 – 2019)
IEEE Canada members mourns the passing of Len Bateman in December, 2019. Leonard A. Bateman, former chair and chief executive officer of Manitoba Hydro, died Dec. 7 at age 100. Bateman, a member of both the Order of Canada and Order of Manitoba, was responsible for building the first Canadian long-distance direct current (DC) transmission lines, running from Nelson River in northern Manitoba to the southern part of the province.
Dr. John S. MacDonald (1936 – 2019)
IEEE Canada members mourns the passing of Dr. John S. MacDonald in December, 2019. Dr. MacDonald was well known as a founder and CEO of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA). In addition to his engineering entrepreneurship, Dr. MacDonald served on numerous boards, advisory committees and was active in establishing and building the high tech industry in B.C.
