Approaches, Analyses, and Performance Issues in Virtualized Environments and Software Defined Networking (PVE-SDN)

Co-located with the IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols (ICNP 2017)

Date: October 10-13, 2017
Location: Toronto, Canada

The emergence of software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) as two pillars of a new networking paradigm has led to design and deployment of elastic content- and service-delivery virtual networks on cloud-based data centres whose backbones consist of software-defined substrate physical networks. This dynamic, multi-layer architecture for network functions introduces new challenges in maintaining performance and quality of service for service providers, and requires new ideas and frameworks in performance measurement and network management. This workshop aims to bring together academic and industry researchers from software-defined ecosystems to identify and discuss technical challenges, state of the art techniques, and contemporary results related to performance analysis of SDN and NFV environments. Submissions are welcomed on a variety of topics including but not limited to:

  • Performance models for virtualized environments
  • Performance metrics in virtualized environments
  • Performance measurement in virtualized environments
  • Quality of Service and Quality of Experience in cloud-based networks
  • Content distribution in virtualized environments and software-defined networks
  • Resource-aware virtualisation and infrastructure as a service
  • Management of software-defined ecosystems
  • Service provider requirements
  • SDN/NFV Performance in Context of 5G
  • Performance of SDN data, control, and management planes
  • Design and assessment of efficient SDN northbound/southbound interfaces
  • Performance of multi-controller SDN deployments
  • Service function chaining performance evaluation
  • Performance of NFV orchestration solutions
  • Approaches relavant to SDN and/or NFV
  • Analysis of SDN and/or NFV systems
  • SDN/NFV in Context of BlockChains, and FinTech

Prospective authors are invited to submit full-length papers, with up to ten pages for technical content including figures and possible references in IEEE Conference format. All the accepted papers need to be presented at the workshop. They will be included in the workshop proceedings as well as IEEE Xplore.

Important Dates:

July 15, 2017: Paper submission
Aug 15, 2017: Acceptance notification
September 1, 2017: Camera-ready submission

IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence for Security and Defense Applications (CISDA) 2017

Date: November 27-December 1, 2017
Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

The symposium will be held within the 2017 IEEE Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence (IEEE SSCI 2017).

MOTIVATION Given the current global security environment, there has been increased interest within the security and defense communities in novel techniques for solving challenging problems. The genesis of this interest lies in the fact that repeated attempts of using traditional techniques have left many important problems unsolved, and in some cases, not addressed. New problems have emerged within the broad areas of security and defense that are difficult to tackle with conventional methods, thus requiring new techniques for detecting and adapting to emerging threats. The purpose of the symposium is to present current and ongoing efforts in computational intelligence (e.g., neural networks, fuzzy systems, evolutionary computation, swarm intelligence, and other emerging learning or optimization techniques) as applied to security and defense problems.

SCOPE This symposium aims at publishing high-quality research efforts rooted in Computational Intelligence as applied to defense and security problems. First-class contributions addressing research challenges in these areas and their CI-based solutions (i.e., neural networks, fuzzy systems, evolutionary computation, swarm intelligence, rough sets, granular computing, and other emerging learning or optimization techniques) are solicited.

TOPICS The list of topics is available at the conference website.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Paper Submissions: July 2, 2017
Early Registration: September 24, 2017

Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CJECE), ISSN-0840-8688, issued quarterly, has been publishing high-quality refereed scientific papers in all areas of electrical and computer engineering since 1976.

Sponsored by IEEE Canada (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., Canada), the CJECE complements other IEEE technical journals and will be of particular interest to anyone involved in research and development activities in all the subfields of electrical and computer engineering (ECE) and in particular in the increasingly multidisciplinary areas of ECE. This is one of many avenues for IEEE Canada to provide increased scientific and professional value for its members. As a service to members, subsidies allow the subscription fee to be kept affordable for individuals, libraries, and organizations alike.

We invite you to browse our website and IEEE Xplore, and subscribe to the CJECE. You can subscribe at any time and receive all the issues for the year. For any comments or suggestions, you are welcome to contact us.

CJECE publications covers all sub-disciplines of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This all-encompassing nature allows it to provide support for the wide variety of cutting-edge research and scientific directions in this fast-paced field. To provide the highest value to authors and the readership, the journal boasts an exceptionally short sub-to-pub process. The first decisions are provided to the authors in about 2 months from the date the paper enters the full review process. This is possible thanks to a dedicated editorial team operating the process within the state-of-the-art ScholarOne Manuscripts portal. The publications process is handled like other IEEE technical journals via the IEEE Publications in Piscataway, USA.

The journal accepts papers in two regular tracks of 'original article' and 'Review/Tutorial'. Every year, there are also conference special issues publishing extended versions of distinguished papers of conferences such as the Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE).
