Computer Society Distinguished Lecture – 2025 West Canada Tour
IEEE Computer Chapters in West Canada put together a Distinguished Lecture event by inviting Dr. Rick Kazman of Computer Society for a West Canada tour in October 2025.
Dr. Rick Kazman, the Distinguished Professor at the University of Hawaii, visited Computer Chapters of Southern Alberta, Vancouver, North Saskatchewan, and Winnipeg and presented the topic of “Do we still need architects in the age of AI?”. This topic covered a captivating talk exploring the evolving role of software architects in the age of AI. Through two fascinating empirical studies, Dr. Kazman demonstrated how large language models can assist architects, while emphasizing that human architects remain essential for insight, judgment, and system vision.
Thanks to Dr. Kazman, and to the computer chapter Chairs: Dr. Cinnati Loi, Dr. Ahmed Ashraf, Dr. Mandeep Pannu, and to Dr. Yasaman Amannejad for leading the Computer Society 2025 West Canada tour. A huge appreciation to IEEE Computer Society for sponsoring the tour, and to Matthew Wilder and Fares Alsaafani for supporting the initiative.
