Nominations for IEEE Canada Awards

IEEE Canada Awards and Recognition Committee (ARC) seeks nominations for IEEE Canada awards and for other awards that are available to IEEE Canada members including those from the EIC and the IEEE Member & Geographic Activities Board. Nomination Forms and guide lines can be found at the web page http://www.ieee.ca/awards/nominate.htm . Please note that the deadline for IEEE Canada 11 Major Awards nominations is November 30th while the deadline for EIC Medals and Fellow nominations is November 15th.

Renew Your Membership for 2011

You can start renewing your membership for 2011. Remember, IEEE membership can connect you with professionals who can open doors to many opportunities. There are also many online resources available to members (e.g. online books and publications). Membership Dues in Special Circumstances

IEEE realizes that economic circumstances may impact some members' ability to pay the full amount of IEEE membership dues. For this reason, the following special circumstance categories have been established. Special circumstances are not available to Student members. Only one category may be claimed in any year.

TV Series Casting Call

Paperny Films, the award winning production company behind the hit series Eat St., Jetstream and The Week the Women Went, is looking for HOSTS and GUEST EXPERTS for an exciting new TV series about the apocalypse.

The program takes a serious and objective look at Armageddon while trying to get to the bottom of our post-apocalyptic fears in a humorous way. It promises to be one wild road trip that explores the science, technology, commerce and history behind the end-of- times.

Whether you're a gearhead who can build a car using nothing but a wrench and two hands, a scientist who knows all about plate tectonics, or a comedian who's great with people, we're looking for a variety individuals from different backgrounds who can help us bring this unique new series to life.

If you're a big personality, can talk about your area of expertise in layman's terms and you think you've got what it takes to be part of this new show, please send us a brief bio, picture and, if possible, video. IEEE Vancouver Centennial Celebration

On Tuesday August 23rd, over 150 members, friends and guests of the IEEE Vancouver Section gathered to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding, and to propel the Section forward into its second century. After presentation of an inspirational IEEE video about "The Solutionists", the evening was opened with a welcome and salutation from City of Vancouver Councilor Geoff Meggs. Vancouver Section Chair Mazana Armstrong recognized and called on each of the Centennial Sponsors in order to thank them for their support.

IEEE International Conference on Communications

Date: June 10-15, 2012
Location: Ottawa, Canada

Since 1965 the IEEE International Conference on Communications has been one of the flagship conferences of the IEEE Communications Society. IEEE ICC brings together the world's leaders, scientists, policy makers from industry and academia. The IEEE Ottawa Section is proud to host IEEE ICC 2012 Conference and Exhibition from 10-15 June 2012 where recent advances in the field of communications will be presented.

The theme of the conference is "CONNECT o COMMUNICATE o COLLABORATE". For participants it promises to stimulate the scientific exchange of ideas, the identification of future trends in communications, and the illumination of business opportunities. The conference program will feature 12 technical symposia, 16 industrial forums, keynote presentations, several workshops, and tutorials.

2012 IEEE International Systems Conference

Date: March 19-23, 2012
Location: Marriott Pinnacle Vancouver Hotel

The theme of the IEEE International Systaems Conference is Engineering of Complex Systems, to include Systems-of-systems, Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, and Systems Thinking.

The IEEE Systems Council facilitates interactions among communities of interest on system-level problems and applications. System-level thinking is essential in the world today, not only for technical systems but also for society at large. The Council addresses the discipline of systems engineering, including the issues and complexities of system-level and system-of-systems applications, focusing on the total systems effectiveness of complex integrated systems of national and global significance.
