How do you fuse soft & hard computing?
A new book from Wiley-IEEE Press offers a practical guide to the integration
of soft and hard computing for today's engineering applications. "Computationally
Intelligent Hybrid Systems: The Fusion of Soft Computing and Hard Computing,"
edited by Seppo J. Ovaska, is currently the only book to examine the practical
issues involved in the creation of high-performance, cost-effective applications
using a synthesis of neural networks, fuzzy systems, and evolutionary
computation with traditional computing methods. For more information, or to
purchase this title, visit http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-0471476684.html.
Expert addresses power system failures
A new book from Wiley-IEEE Press offers readers to the chance to learn how to
evaluate, forecast, and manage the risk of power system failures. "Risk
Assessment of Power Systems: Models, Methods, and Applications" by industry
expert Wenyuan Li serves to bridge the gap between theory and application. For
more information, or to purchase this title, visit

Mechatronics - An Integrated Approach
A single source, providing an integrated and simplified treatment of
mechanics, electronics, and intelligent computer control with sensors and
actuators, and covering theory, design, and practice of mechatronics. A
versatile text that spans several courses in mechatronics, the book offers a
strong foundation in such core subjects as dynamic system modeling, electronic
components and analysis, mechanical components and analysis, robotics,
sensors/transducers and instrumentation, stepper motors, dc and ac motors and
drives, hydraulic and pneumatic actuators, fluidics, automatic control, digital
processing and hardware, communication and interfacing, software tools, design,
and prototyping. Appendices provide additional background on Laplace and Fourier
transform techniques, and software tools including MATLAB, SIMULINK, and LabVIEW.
The book emphasizes practical situations and applications with numerous worked
examples, problems, and exercises. An entire chapter is devoted to practical
case studies.
