Sponsored by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, the publication is a forum for the rapid publication of new ideas and research results in the form of short contributions, which will undergo a rigorous peer-review process. Twelve papers are included in the first issue, the table of contents for which can be found at http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/servlet/opac?punumber=7727&isvol=1&isno=1 Weekly IEEE Periodicals mailing report available onlineNeed to know when an issue of an IEEE periodical mailed? Check the online version of the IEEE Periodicals Mailing Report. Updated weekly, the report is available in both PDF and Excel formats, and lists the full year's worth of shipping dates for all IEEE periodicals. To view the report, visit http://www.ieee.org/about/documentation/copyright/pmd.html. IEEE Member Digital Library Information now availableA new Web site provides IEEE Members with information about the IEEE Member Digital Library, a subscription service available in January 2003. The IEEE Member Digital Library allows IEEE Members exclusive access to full-text papers published in IEEE periodicals and conference proceedings in the last five years. IEEE Members and others may now find out more about the subscription service and sign up to receive more information at http://www.ieee.org/ieeemdl Opportunity to publish in IEEE Optical CommunicationsIEEE Optical Communications, a quarterly supplement in IEEE Communications Magazine, is seeking papers for its first issue, to be published in February 2003. Founding co-chairs, Stamatios Kartalopoulos and Chunming Qiao, will include columns on controversial issues, "hot" technologies, and emerging standards. Also planned are quality survey/tutorial style articles focusing on the timely topics related to the design, implementation and testing of optical networks, systems and components as well as their applications. Papers for the first issue should be submitted by 31 September 2002. Submissions received after that date will be considered for future issues. For more information see http://www.comsoc.org/optical Student Scholarship available from the IEEE Computer SocietyThe IEEE Computer Society is offering student members an opportunity to earn a US$500 award through the Lance Stafford Larson Student Scholarship fund. The Larson Scholarship is a best-paper contest that recognizes excellence in writing skill, technical knowledge, and overall presentation in a computer-related undergraduate student paper. The scholarship, created by IEEE Past President Robert Larson, is intended to encourage the development of communication skills of computer engineering students. The application deadline is 31 October 2002. For application information and additional details, please visit http://www.computer.org/students/schlrshp.htm#larson New On-Line Computer CoursesBeginning this month, the IEEE Computer Society's Distance Learning Campus is offering 30 new Web-based courses, with several more coming in September. Subjects include Java, Cisco, Project Management, CompTIA, HTML, Windows Network Security, Unix, and Visual C++. Access the course catalog and enrollment information at http://computer.org/distancelearning/index.htm. Dr. Beaulieu elected Fellow of The Royal Society of CanadaFellowship in the Royal Society of Canada is considered Canada's most prestigious academic accolade to which scholars and scientists aspire. "These distinguished individuals have accomplished work of truly outstanding quality," said Howard Alper, President of the Royal Society of Canada. "They add enormous value to the extraordinary resource of talent and experience that constitutes the Society." The citations for the awards describe Dr Beaulieu as "a scientific leader in the analysis and modeling of wireless communications systems. He has discovered ingenious mathematical solutions and models for a wide range of digital communications components and applications . International researchers have widely used his methods, models and results." Congratulations Dr. Beaulieu! Funding still available in the Environmental Youth Corps (EYC) International internship programThe Canadian Council for Human Resources in the Environment Industry(CCHREI),
in partnership with Environment Canada and Human Resources Development Canada,
is pleased to announce that the Environmental Youth Corps (EYC) International
internship program still has funding left for Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan and
Newfoundland. The EYC is a successful internship program designed to bridge the
gap between young post-graduate professionals (under the age of thirty) and
their environmental employers. Toronto STC Competition 2002-2003The Society of Technical Communication's Toronto Chapter's Annual Writing Competition is now in progress. You can participate either as a contestant or as a volunteer.
