Michael Smith Award Winners; Taking the fun of science to everyone
NSERC has announced the five winners of this year's Michael Smith Awards.
Named after Canadian Nobel Laureate Michael Smith, the award honours
individuals and groups who make an outstanding contribution to the
promotion of science in Canada. The Awards Committee looks for sustained
and significant efforts to inspire public understanding and develop abilities in
science and engineering. NSERC President, Tom Brzustowski, said, "Science
and technology are changing how we live and work so greatly that it is
important for people to understand their promises and challenges. These
award winners are helping people learn both the results of sciences and the joys
of discovery, and that makes them better able to engage in an informed public
debate around the new technologies."

IEEE Web Accounts - Do I really need one ?
You've probably been hearing references to the IEEE Web Accounts recently in
any number of places but still you may be asking "What is it and why do I
need one ?". It's simple: IEEE Web Accounts provide IEEE Members and
customers with access to a growing number of online services, many of them free.
IEEE Web Accounts provide access to Bibliographies Online, BooksPlus, Spectrum
Online, membership renewal online, additional shipping convenience in the IEEE
Online Catalog & Store and soon, IEEE Xplore. Dan Senese, IEEE Executive
Director, had this to add: "Upcoming areas of planned migration to Web
Accounts are Email Alias Services, IEEE OPeRA (through Xplore), and other to be
announced Society-oriented services and publications." To register for an
IEEE Web Account or for more information, visit: http://www.ieee.org/web/accounts/

Searching for a specific abstract from an IEEE communications publication?
Now IEEE makes it easier than ever using the IEEE ComSoc Search Engine. This
advanced search engine reaches periodical papers published by the IEEE
Communications Society since 1996 and provides free abstracts to all. All users
have the option of purchasing the selected papers for a modest fee. The
documents are available either as HTML documents or PDF files, and some papers
in both formats. To search for a specific communications abstract, visit http://www.comsoc.org/search/index.html
